It is with deep sorrow that we have received notice, Jim Carter, a retired USU Organiser, passed away over the night of March 18 2025.
Jim began working at Strathfield Council in the 1990’s in the field of horticulture. His journey with the USU began as an active delegate, eventually becoming a branch delegate just before stepping into the role of Organiser in 2003.
For over 15 years, Jim served as an Organiser at various councils, dedicating his final 5 years to the City of Sydney.
As members and colleagues who had the chance to work alongside Jim, we are profoundly saddened by his passing. He was a dedicated Union man who fought hard to improve pay and conditions for all members and was passionate about members issues and workers’ rights.
He was deeply respected and will be greatly missed. Our thoughts are with his family and friends during this difficult time.
Members paid their tributes to Jim:

Rest in peace Jimmy…
I’ll have a beer and a cigi for ya mate!
