After years of dedicated campaigning and numerous meetings, the USU is thrilled to announce the launch of a new salary system at Central Coast Council starting 3rd March 2025. This milestone follows extensive NSW IRC proceedings and ongoing advocacy since February 2024.

This process has been overseen by a sub-committee with representatives from industry unions and nominated USU union delegates to ensure fairness and consistency across all salary grades.

Key Updates:

  • New Salary System Introduction:From 3rd March 2025, Central Coast Council will implement a new salary system with 19 distinct Salary Grades, each featuring 6 Steps (pay levels). This system aims to provide a clear and consistent structure for all employees.
  • Skill-Based Salary Progression:A new method of salary progression based on the use and acquisition of skills will be introduced.
  • Transitional Arrangements:All employees will transition to the new salary system from the first full pay period from Monday, 3rd March 2025. Transitional salary progression options will be available starting July 2025.
  • Remuneration and Job Evaluation Protocol – This protocol has been developed between the parties (Unions / Central Coast Council). This will be ratified before the NSW IRC.
  • Market Loading Payments:An updated and transparent system for identifying and administering market loading payments.
  • Fair Evaluation:Ongoing efforts to ensure fair, transparent, and consistent position evaluation with a panel comprising a People & Culture Representative, a Union Delegate, and a Management Representative.

Transitioning to a New Grade: All members will have received a letter from Thursday, 27th February 2025, confirming their new grade and step according to the new Salary table. Any increases will be paid from 3rd March 2025.

Finalising Feedback / Outstanding PD Reviews: Currently there is the finalising of feedback from the position description review to assign salary grades to each position. Outstanding reviews will be completed within the next 8 weeks, with any increases retrospectively paid from 3rd March 2025.

Overall Considerations:

  • Integrated Salary System: Based on the Award, a first for Central Coast Council.
  • Skill-Based Progression: Ensuring fair progression based on real factors.
  • No Pay Reduction: Ensuring level placement for all members.
  • Opportunities for Progression: Many members will have further opportunities to progress.

Thank you for your support! This outcome is a result of collective action and the unwavering support of USU members at Central Coast Council. Let’s continue to move forward together!
