All workers deserve fair pay progression based on the work they do every day. Not just for going above and beyond to meet unrealistic benchmarks.

USU members across Cumberland Council have voted in support of proposed changes to the Council’s salary and annual assessment system. The changes will bring fairer progression and better long-term earning potential for employees across the organisation.

The new system applies to all council staff from Grade 2 to Grade 9 (those earning up to $100,000) and was backed by members following a series of vote meetings and an electronic ballot.

The changes are:

  • Step progression (1.5% per step) will now be based on competency/meeting expectations rather than needing to exceed the expectations each year.
  • Members who exceed expectations are eligible for a $1,000 bonus.
  • The salary structure expands from 6 steps to 16, allowing for greater long-term pay growth under the new model.
