In late 2023, Randwick Council reviewed the role of Rangers within the Council and advised members they would be regraded to Grade 10 in the salary system. However, many members had initially agreed to the potential of progressing from Grade 9 to Grade 11 when they joined the Council.

USU met with the affected Rangers, explaining their rights. Some Rangers were considering settling for Grade 10 and giving up the opportunity to advance to Grade 11. But your Union united members to advocate and push for all Rangers to upgrade to Grade 10 while retaining the pathway to Grade 11.

Following a sustained effort that spanned several months, the Council confirmed that Rangers could still progress to Grade 11. This amounts to a difference of tens of thousands of dollars more over the years for Rangers planning to stay long term
