Introduction
The United Services Union has two mobile billboard trucks which are used as a campaign tool. In instances where the billboard trucks are not in use, the USU would like to formally invite other unions, organisations, candidates, and companies to hire the truck for their use.
Best uses
Mobile billboard trucks are an effective messaging tool for your campaign. At the USU, we have found the trucks are highly effective campaign assets, particularly for targeted pressure campaigns. Due to the nature of the trucks, they can be used to display a permanent message outside a specific location or circle a particular area. Given that the trucks are digital, multiple messages can be used and swapped, meaning you can clearly get your message across.
Here are some examples of how the trucks could be used:
Support a local event

Run a campaign

Truck information
The USU has two mobile billboard trucks. One is located in Sydney and can be used in Greater Sydney and surrounding regions. The second truck is located in Rutherford and can be used to service the Newcastle area and surrounding regions. The USU reserves the right to use our discretion in regards to who can hire our trucks and when.
The USU operates both trucks, meaning you don’t need to find a driver. We will drive to the site of your choosing over a time period of your choosing.
Both trucks have three screens, two on either side, and one at the back.
- Side screens: 4m x 2m
- Back screen: 2m x 2m

Rules and regulations
Below are the terms and conditions of hiring a USU mobile billboard truck, which you will need to agree to before hiring.
Rules, Regulations, and Operating guidelines for LED Signage Truck
- The LED truck is a NSW registered Medium Rigid truck, which is required to obey all traffic laws, including signage detailing restrictions and prohibitions on parking. All directions for parking or circulation of truck must comply with all relevant laws governing any motor vehicle.
- Road laws in NSW prohibit the use of lights “that could dazzle or distract other road users.” This impacts the operation of the truck in several ways:
- We cannot display video content on the truck within sight of drivers. A single static image, or a slideshow of static images can be shown on the truck while driving or within view of drivers, with a minimum time to display each slide of 5 seconds.
- The brightness of the LED screens is adjusted by the driver to match the conditions. On cloudy days, or in darkness, the brightness of the screens must be reduced significantly. This requires the driver to momentarily stop a vehicle to adjust the brightness, and may be done at any time during a route at the driver’s discretion.
- The display of video content may only be done when the vehicle is stationary and out of sight of drivers on NSW public roads. One side of the truck may display video content, while the other side of the truck and the rear may display static images in instances where one side of the truck is visible to pedestrians, and the other side is visible to drivers.
- Audio, either from microphones or video content, may only be played while the truck is stationary. The truck includes a public address system and two wireless microphones which require the set-up of speakers external to the truck. The set up takes approximately 5 minutes and will be done by the driver.
