Virgin Australia announces 2% capacity reduction – USU/ASU members are standing up to protect their hours of work

On 6 November 2019, Virgin Australia announced that it was reducing its capacity by 2%. This includes withdrawing Virgin Australia and Tiger Air flights from Adelaide, Brisbane, Canberra, Darwin, Gold Coast, Melbourne, Perth, Proserpine, Sydney and Tamworth airports. Tiger Air will be refocused as a domestic leisure airline.

We met with Virgin Australia management in Brisbane on Thursday, 7 November 2019. We pushed management for real answers about how the reduction in capacity will affect you and your colleagues. We also pushed management to explore new measures to protect your hours of work, such as using Virgin Australia to provide ground handling services to Tiger Air.

Virgin Australia has told us that the number of new flights will offset the number of withdrawn flights. They say this means no reduction in hours. We’ve asked for the data that proves this is true.

There will be another meeting soon.

Virgin responds to USU/ASU members demand to be heard in the Group Strategy Review

Virgin management has told us that Paul Scurrah and the ELT read every item of Paul’s Post. So get those postcards into management. Tell management they need to commit to meet with the ASU to talk about how we can all make this a safe, respectful and great place to work as well as a profitable airline?! Fill out a postcard here bit.ly/ASUVirginAustralia.
