Recently the USU finalised the Bayswater Enterprise Agreement 2024, with AGL Macquarie.

As an important part of this EA process, we were able to ensure that AGL formally acknowledges the future transition to closure of the Bayswater Power Station and the impact this may have on employees and contractors.

Key commitments include:

  • Fair & Respectful Treatment: AGL has committed to treating all employees with fairness and respect throughout the energy transition.
  • Ongoing Skills Development: AGL will work collaboratively with employees, unions, and government to build skills and capabilities for future industries over the life of the Agreement.
  • No Forced Transfers: Employees will not be forced to relocate to other AGL sites due to Bayswater’s closure.
  • Alternative Employment: AGL will use best endeavours to offer suitable alternative roles within the business prior to any redundancy decisions.
  • Support Package (Minimum 4 Years Prior to Closure):
    • Development of individual transition plans.
    • Access to relevant training for employment outside Bayswater.
    • Financial support for approved training aligned to each employee’s plan.
  • Transition Working Group: Within six months of EA approval, a joint working group of management, employees, and unions will be established to consult on transition arrangements.

We are committed to holding AGL to these obligations and will actively participate in the transition working group to ensure members’ interests are protected. The coming years and decades will bring significant change in the Energy Industry, and it is more important than ever for these workers to have the support and protection of their union.
