TRANSGRID EA Update

The latest round of EA negotiations took place on Monday, March 27th. Once again, the implementation of IEAs was the hot topic of discussion. The combined unions presented advice, opinions and made several without prejudice suggestions as to how TransGrid could make “productivity improvements” without the use, let alone further use, of IEAs. The combined energy unions maintain that IEAs are not legal.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the sticking points remained:

  • Choice for existing and new employees to work a 9 day fortnight; and
  • Reversion back to a 9 day fortnight in an instance where somebody has elected to work a 10 day fortnight.

IT IS WORTH NOTING THAT OTHER ENERGY PROVIDERS WITH WHOM WE ARE DEALING ARE WORKING WITH US TO REMOVE SIMILAR IEA TYPE ARRANGEMENTS FROM THEIR AGREEMENTS.

The other topics covered were classifications and progression. TransGrid is seeking what they describe as clearer wording with respect to these topics of discussion – these discussions took place within a working group and will continue to be discussed; no outcomes were achieved.
