SYDNEY'S biggest council is planning to sell off local community services.

So far Child Care services and the Mount Druitt Pool have come under council's privatisation plan.

USU general secretary Graeme Kelly said many parents, along with the union and members are deeply concerned privatisation would lead to higher fees and poorer quality of child care services, saying private operators were only concerned with maximising profit.

Blacktown City Council has 24 Child Care Centres that provide a high quality service to the community. Privatising this sector is the fi rst step in destroying vital community services. It is also likely to lead to an increase in fees, as privatised child care centres are run for PROFIT and not as a community service benefi ting YOU, the ratepayer, and may result in a decline in the level of service. We are concerned that ANY moves taken to privatise some or ALL child care centres will affect the community, the quality of service and the employees involved.

Meanwhile, Liberal Mayor Len Robinson and Independent Deputy Russ Dickens have used their casting votes to close your pool forever without any community consultation.
