Is Democracy Dead at Cumberland Council?

It seems so with the Administrator deciding without a mandate to:

rip democracy1.    Dissolve Parks Committees
2.    Dissolve Heritage Committees
3.    Outsource Waste Services

Since the amalgamation was proclaimed over 150 staff have left Cumberland Council.

These are decisions that should have waited for an elected Council.  The elections are only a little over 4 months away – what is the rush?

It does in fact seem that for residents of Cumberland that democracy has indeed died.

With this in mind we would like to invite you to a wake to be held in honour of democracy. This will be held at Merrylands Oval 12th May 2017 at 12 noon.

All members of the community and those who work in the Cumberland area are welcome!

It’s time to show the Administrator, Mr Viv May that enough is enough!

There is a rumour that attending this rally may be a breach of the code of conduct.

That is simply not true.

The rally is being held during lunch time, this is your private time, and Council cannot dictate where you choose to spend it.

We urge all employees of Cumberland Council to attend this rally in a sign of solidarity and support, and should any members be subject to disciplinary action because of their attendance the USU will be right there beside them.
