We want to make Sunday 7 May Day 2017 the greatest turnout of the Union Movement ever.
It is International Workers Day and we celebrate who we are on this day.
Thousands of people all around the world turn out for the May Day celebration.
We want to show the community the Union Movement is back bigger and stronger than ever and we will not stand back and let our penalty rates, wages and conditions be cut. We live in a wealthy country and all workers who contribute to making us wealthy should have a fair share of the pie. We know that this is not happening and the gap between the rich and poor is widening. The theme for this year’s May Day event is fighting against inequality
The May Day celebrations will commence at 12 midday at Hyde Park North.
Speeches commence 12.30pm, Comedian; Corrine Grant will be the MC. A number of great union and community leaders will be speaking including, the new leader of the ACTU, Sally McManus & Leader of Unions NSW, Mark Morey, Paul McAleer, Dr John Falzon SVDP
We want our kids and grandkids to lead our march under the banner of fighting for a better future for the next generations.
Following the march there we will a Free Family Picnic & Fun Day at Prince Alfred Park!
- There will be music, bands and entertainment
- There will be free rides – dodgem, giant slide, cup & saucer, roundup, jumbo jumping castle and fairy floss machine. We also have face painters and kids’ activities.
- There will be a first aid stall with sunscreen. Toilets will be provided.
- There will be union and community stalls with freebies
- There will be a free sausage sizzle.
We want you, your family and kids to join all of the unions on Sunday May 7 for the May Day march and family fun day at Hyde Park North at 12:00noon.
